Our instructors

Our club is run by Master Duffy, a 5th Dan Master who's been involved in Tang Soo Do for over 25 years.

She began training in 1995, going along to her first class in Edinburgh at Gracemount Sport Centre (where we still train!). Since this first class she's been lucky enough to train with amazing people over the years, all of whom have helped her to achieve everything she has to date.

She has competed in regional, central and national championships, winning gold, silver and bronze medals as well as the ladies challenge shield. In 2007, she was selected to represent the UK in the International Championships which took place in Livadia, Greece; winning three gold medals.

In 2015, she graded to 4th Dan, becoming the first woman to grade to master belt in Scotland. When Master Manclark, who she had trained under, retired in 2022 she became our club instructor - a role which she has fulfilled with great care and devotion. Master Duffy has been a 5th Dan Master since 2023.

Alan began training in November 2004. He came to Tang Soo Do later in life, starting his training at the age of 40. Like Master Duffy, his first lesson was at Gracemount Sports Centre. He never would have imagined that 20 years later, he would be one of the instructors, teaching a class in the same hall where he started all those years ago. Alan graded to 3rd Dan in June 2019.

Over the years, he has crossed paths with many Masters, Instructors, and Students who have greatly helped him on his Tang Soo Do journey.

He has competed in Regional and National Championships, winning gold, silver, and bronze medals. In 2014, he won the 1st Dan Challenge Shield at the Region 1 Championships. His greatest achievement in competition was winning two gold medals at the 2022 National Championships.

Our club

Tang Soo Do Scotland was established in 1991 and has been in continuous existence since then.

We have a great mix of men and women, boys and girls of all ages. Although we take our training seriously, we practice Tang Soo Do because we want to improve our skills with our other friends in the club. And that for many is what sets us apart. It is a family friendly and safe environment, one that is fun to be part of. Tang Soo Do is particularly well suited to families who want to do a martial art together. Both parent and child can proceed at their own pace, but feel like they are doing something together.

Along with regular training sessions, members of the club also have the opportunity to compete at regional and UK championships, which are held annually near London. Senior members of the club also attend regular seminars, referees and coaching courses.

If you want to see how it’s done, give us a try. The first 2 classes are free. Just come along in loose fitting clothes and we’ll help you to see if Tang Soo Do is right for you.
